Senior Research economist/Research economist

The Bank of Finland's Research Unit’s main task is to produce research with policy relevance in central banking, and to publish it in highly-ranked peer-reviewed journals. The Unit regularly organizes international research seminars and conferences and runs a visiting scholars programme. The researchers’ responsibilities also include policy work in their respective areas of expertise.

The Research Unit is hiring a

Senior Research Economist/ Research Economist

in a fixed-term position. The appointment period is negotiable between 1 October 2019 until 30 September 2020. 

 Required qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Economics or Finance (or expected to complete doctorate degree in either of those areas in the near future)
  • Excellent potential to publish high-quality research in areas relevant to central banks
  • Experience and a publication record of high quality in the areas of expertise relevant to the post is an asset
  • Expertise in macroeconomics or financial economics, preferably with focus on macro theory and/or monetary economics
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent written and presentation skills in English. 

The Research Unit offers a stimulating and international research environment in one of the world's most livable cities.  We provide funding for conference travel, access to research databases and high performance computing.

The working language of the Research Unit is English and knowledge of the Finnish language is not required. One can get by very well with English everywhere in Finland. Salary and benefits are competitive with those of other European central banks and academic positions.
